Frequently asked questions
My double glazing has misted up. Do I need a whole new window?
Almost never. Misting means the seal on the sealed unit has failed and moisture has got between the panes. The glass unit is replaced; the frame, hinges and handles stay. It's far cheaper than a new window and takes under an hour per unit once the glass is made.
How long does a replacement pane take?
Standard clear glass we often carry, so the same visit is common. Sealed double glazed units, toughened glass and patterned glass are made to your measurements and typically take two to five working days. We secure the opening in the meantime.
Can you repair a broken sash window?
Yes. We reglaze timber sash windows, including replacing cords and putty-glazing where the original detail calls for it, and we can supply slim double glazed units that fit period sashes in conservation areas.
Do I have to be home for the work?
Someone needs to give access, and for measuring we need to reach the window from inside. We book two-hour arrival windows for planned work so you're not waiting all day.
Is it worth claiming on my insurance?
Compare the quote against your policy excess first. A single small pane is often less than the excess, in which case paying directly is cheaper and leaves your no-claims intact. For a break-in or several windows, claiming usually makes sense — and we can supply everything the insurer asks for.
